Update

Here's an update on the house and job front as everyone has been very kind in asking. Steve had his final, final interview with one of the jobs yesterday. It's a great job, but really far away. If it weren't for the distance, it would probably be his first choice. The other one, the 1st choice one, is in limbo, but contacted him again yesterday and so we are praying for clarity and whichever one he will be best in. He's been treated very well by AIG and while it's nothing of what he wants to do, we are grateful he was able to find anything in this economy. Times are tough.
As for the house that we have an offer on... it's still there and we're still waiting. Short sales are painfully long and frustrating. Try to avoid them at all costs. We'll wait and wait, but we're also starting to realize it may well go to foreclosure first and we're looking at other places just in case. A couple came on the market of interest this week, so we're hopeful. We long for a home of our own for the holidays, but count our blessings every day for this space of love and graciousness with my family.
Tomorrow we are heading to Connecticut to be with the family of one of our dearest friends who passed away two days ago of cancer. Samara is coming along and we pray that some comfort will be found in her precious giggle, and some strength can be shared in our hugs. Our hearts are there right now.

Listen to Me!

Here's a photo of Samara voicing her self-assurance and demanding we pay attention! Just look at those barely-there eye-brows. I think you can see what I mean. We have a strong, clever and amazing little girl, full of spunk and character! She keeps everything very entertaining.

Tough Day

Samara and I have had our first day apart. It was heart-wrenching. I mean, just look at how adorable she is. It's so hard to leave her! Late yesterday, I received a call from a Tower teacher asking me to sub, and so I did. I left home at 7:30 and returned at 4. Yes, I did steal two 20 minute breaks away during the day, during which I fed her and kissed her and hugged my little girl like crazy, but we both survived and I'm just glad I don't have to do that again tomorrow, the day after or... ever?! Well, we'll see. I am going back in January, but just for half a day, which is a great relief. All of that said, it was fun to see all of my old colleagues and friends again and the 3rd graders were tremendously warm and amusing. Two even made little happy 5 month birthday cards for Samara during recess! Yes, she's 5 months old! So, it was one fine day, but I sure am glad it's over!

Calling

Samara's Call - Getting Frustrated from Victoria Dosch on Vimeo.

A few weeks ago, Samara started making these amusing baby calls. It's better than crying and makes us laugh every time.

Too good to be ...

These wintery walks along the water are heavenly. They clear my head and despite all the anxiety about houses, jobs, money and health, nothing matters. We have so much joy, life can be so simple and perfect. We are truly blessed and I'm excited for all that lies ahead.

A New Day

On this day of history, the morning after such an election, Obama will soon be President and I am excited for and open to his change. I do believe that the passion and hope he has inspired are beautiful things for any generation. We can't all agree on every issue, but we can set examples in our words and deeds, find the goodness and beauty in everything, and give one another the chance to speak and listen. I must say, this morning, just checking the Facebook status updates was saddening. While I know his candidacy and now victory have been shocking, even frustrating to many, there is nothing to gain from righteous wishes of failure, disgruntled anger and frankly un-Christian attack. I, too, once supported another candidate, but as in everything, we have a choice to be strong or weak, kind or cruel, loving or hateful. Patriotism and partinism aside, should we judge and should we despise, we are most likely far more unrighteous and hurtfully wrong. Prayers are good, disappointment may be understood, but lowering yourself to the dismal points of either campaign, to the pessimism and rage of a heavy heart is just not helpful. I am not American, but I believe in the prospects and pursuits of this nation wholeheartedly and I am ready and able to respect, admire and pray for a famliy who has realized a great American Dream, and a man who believes in making a difference. He is one strong voice and whether or not we echo, we, too, can sing.

I heart bananas

Samara is a new baby since she started bananas 6 days ago now. She just loves them! When I get out her special bowl and spoon and start to mash, she is like a puppy dog who's seen his leash taken out of the drawer. It's so sweet. She leans in for every bite and eats a WHOLE banana in just a couple of minutes. And then... sometime thereafter.... she sleeps! She's actually been napping every day since last Tuesday, sometimes for 2 hours, sometimes 3 times a day! It's incredible. I am so proud of her. Watching her lie so calmly, so still, makes me so happy for her. And when she wakes up talking, not crying, it's a good thing for everyone. She's so big now! And today we might try pears!
In other news, today is the election. Samara may well get her vote before me. It feels strange not having a voice, as I feel no different than Joe the Sailor next door, but Steve will cast his vote for our family of three, ever so proudly, and hope that today's victory will be the beginning of many good things to come. There's just so much going on. I am overwhelmed with excitement, anticipation and nerves, too. It sure is good to know there's someone else in charge. Happy voting everyone!
